"Music should have a purpose you know"- Steve Garrigan, Kodaline

KODALINE TICKETS HAVE ARRIVED!

At long last Kodaline are near the Toon (Newcastle), They are performing on Friday 29th March. It really will be "Good Friday".
Steve, Mark, Vinny May and Jason, will be playing at The Cluny at 8pm. Kodaline will be supported by In the Valley Below and Gavin James.

I always like to do a bit of research into a support act before a gig if I don't know them. So I've been listening to In The Valley Below recently. So who are they and whats their music like?... Well I'll give you the low down.

In The Valley Below are a new duo band delivering a blend of male and female vocals. The band are from Echo Park, LA. They have recently been doing gigs mainly in the US. After listening to their track- 'Peaches' I instantly fell in love with their dark, bassy textures and vocals from Jeffery Jacobs and Angela Gail. Their music genre has been described as- Indie Dusk, Post Ghost, Sex Prog and Dark Duet. From their Facebook Biography they have been described as...

"Angela Gail and Jeffrey Jacob have crafted a sultry collection of melodic duets in a bed of rumbling drums, synth machines, gritty guitars, and layers of strange and dreamy keyboards"

I have also looked into Gavin James...

Dublin based singer songwriter Gavin James has currently had no.1 on iTunes album chart. His debut- ' Say Hello- EP'  entered the Irish iTunes album chart at no.1. 'Say Hello' was recorded in Leeds with music producer James Kenosha.

From listening to Gavin James recently, I've really enjoyed his new EP. He reminds me of- Ray LaMontagne. Gavin's voice is a great example of modern country folk, his guitar skills also compliment his great music style. I'm sure he'll be great tomorrow night live! So there we have it... bit of background information on some great supporting acts for Kodaline. I'll be sure to update after the gig!

Check out Gavin James...

Cider Black Please

I've been very busy over the past few months! Lots of University deadlines creeping up on me! However I have been out and about attending some amazing gig nights at the Newcastle o2 Academy and some local shows. Cider Black please... best drink to have at a gig!

I've been meaning to upload some gig photos/videos for a while! So we're going back in time now to November when my friend Laura and I saw Irish band The Coronas and Hudson Taylor. I have been following Hudson Taylor for just over a year now through social networking and YouTube. I heard they were playing at Newcastle Student Union and couldn't wait to see them support The Coronas.

Hudson Taylor at Newcastle Student Union
Harry and Alfie

So.... A bit about Hudson Taylor. Harry (20) and Alfie (18), both brothers from Ireland, began busking and uploading videos to YouTube. Their music range takes inspiration from Folk and Pop. They have done covers of well known songs, however they always put their own stamp on it! Since reaching to well over 2 million views on YouTube they have released their album- Cinematic Lifestyle, which is now available to buy on iTunes.

As well as supporting The Coronas before Christmas, Hudson Taylor have been touring with Jake Bugg supporting him at his gigs. Hudson Taylor have released a new song called- Drop in the ocean. So check out this video to hear what they sound like.

Hudson Taylor were on stage for about 30 minutes. There set songs for the night were-
- Butterflies
-Watchtower
- Hideaway
- Left Alone
- Cinematic Lifestyle
- Chasing Rubies
- Battles
My Guitar Necklace signed by Hudson Taylor!

Harry and Alfie were really lovely after the show, I was able to meet them and talk to them about their music. They said how crazy it is meeting fans (like me) who sing along to their music. I was also lucky to have my guitar Necklace signed, a photo with the boys and also a cheeky follow from Alfie on Twitter!

Enjoy!

Seasons Greetings!

Well the past month has been so busy and I nearly forgot about my blog! (tut tut) But Hey Ho I'm back!

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with family and friends!

And not forgetting that it is now 2013! HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

I had a fabulous Christmas back in Newcastle with my friends and defiantly over indulged, oh well you're allowed.

2013 is going to be a great year for music and style, I can tell already. There are so many new artists/bands to look out for. One of my favourite at the moment is a group called Bastille. They have done a few Mahogany sessions and have released some singles. So why not start 2013 by listening to some new talent! Check them out...

GET YOUR PAWS ON FUR!

West Side Farm, Hexham

We're back to that time of the year! Its time to get your big coats out of the wardrobe or invest in one! Well its all about Faux Fur coats this season. There is so much selection on the high street at the moment, with many varieties of colours and textures.
The Faux Fur coat I'm wearing in this picture belongs to my best friend Bea, she has my leather jacket on. We always swap clothes! I had a quick look inside the coat and saw that it is from H&M, so keep an eye out for this fab coat. I love wearing a fur coat, they are glamorous and keep you incredibly warm!

One website that has some nice Faux Fur coats is www.shopstyle.co.uk/browse?fts=faux+fur+coats . This website finds different websites that sell Faux Fur coats showing different price ranges. If you're a student try and look in New Look, Asos, Boohoo, Miss Selfridges and Topshop... this means STUDENT DISCOUNT! Take advantage of this!

£85 from River Island
£34.99 from H&M
Other trends that are in this season are Leather and Tartan. So after looking on Shopstyle.co.uk  I found this Faux Fur coat from ASOS that screams BUY ME. What I love about this coat is the faux fur trimming round the neck line complimented with leather sleeves and tartan body. Yes its a little pricey at £85 (originally from River Island) but because it is on ASOS you can still get your student discount!

H&M looks like the best place to find a cheap Faux Fur coat, I found this one online for only £34.99, half the price of the one above! The coat is available in cream or black and is concealed by small buttons on the front with two pockets. This coat is defiantly a bargain.

Autumn confessions

£49.99 from  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15-Leather-School-Bag-Satchel-Retro-Vintage-Brand-New-/170916657177?pt=UK_Vintage_Accessories&var&hash=item27cb6d3819&_uhb=1
Satchels!

Rock up to one of your lectures or work with one of these bad boys. They look good, they're fashionable and can fit a lot in!

I chose this old fashioned style satchel because I think its fun with its electric blue spark .This is a great bag to have if you like to stand out from the crowd!

Available from www.Topshop.com
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative then do not worry I have some ideas! Aztec prints are really hitting the high street hard. This satchel that I found in Topshop is only £36.00!

If you are thinking about spending a fair amount of money on a bag, then you need to make the best decision. Check the material of the bags. If you want a cotton bag make sure its 100% or go for the safe option of leather (can't go wrong). The last thing you want is a bag breaking on you during a busy day!

I would advice that no one buys a cheap leather satchel from New Look. I've had a bad experience with one before lets just say Lesson Learned! Also make sure if you do have an old vintage satchel, try not to overload it, my friend learned that the hard way. We ended up missing a lecture because of a broken buckle, at least the guy that fixed it was good looking. He looked a lot like Oliver Proudlock from Made in Chelsea, niceeee. Moving on...

Why not save your pennies for one of these fabulous bags or maybe a Christmas list idea?

Glam it up!

Guitar Necklace with Plectrum - £15.00
 http://www.abilucreations.com/

After searching and searching for vintage jewellery, I came across a fabulous website called Abilu Creations. They are a growing jewellery company that was originally set up in Camden Lock Market, London in 2006.

Abigail Lucy Bruford studied Fine Art, Sculpture & Costume Design at University, her passion and creativity has allowed her to create some beautiful vintage designs. Her jewellery creations are part of her natural progression of her Fine Art. She injects colour and vivid imagination techniques into her designs showing her love of fantasy wonderlands and all things make-believe!

Since then she has made her creations available to purchase online at reasonable prices! I brought my Guitar Necklace for only £15! Bargain!

Tips for this season...

Why not take a risk and try their lucky dip! If you need ideas for Secret Santa why not just pick a lucky dip bag.

They vary from earrings, rings and necklaces. Choose between silver or gold plated and then wait for your surprise!

Gabrielle Aplin

As long as we're together, it doesnt matter where we go.

Gabrielle Aplin is one of the most talented singers I have heard in the recent years. She started off on YouTube like many other young artists trying to be heard. Her most heard songs include- Home and Please don't say you love me.

Her version of Frankie goes to Hollywood-  The Power of Love has been heard on the new John Lewis Christmas advert. Gabrielle is hoping for Christmas No.1 2012. So far the cover is No.5 in the Top 10 iTunes singles charts. I hope Gabrielle goes up in the charts and makes Christmas number 1 instead of the rubbish that is produced on The Xfactor! (Don't get me started on the Xfactor)

Gabrielle Aplin not only sings, as you can probably see from her video she plays piano as well as the guitar in others! She also has a link to the Irish band Hudson Taylor, she is currently in a relationship with Alfie Hudson-Taylor. Can you imagine the sweet music that those two could make?! WOW.

She is my favourite Artist of 2012, she has really worked hard and I think she is a fantastic music idol. Work hard and it'll pay off. Do it the Gabrielle way!
